How my journey began…

It all started when I hit rock bottom. I was an ambitious young lady who wanted it all!

I had just had my first child and I decided to quit my corporate job and pursue my dream of being my own boss, working from where ever and enjoying the free time I would have to spend with my new baby.

Except, I had no time. I had created a more stressful job for myself with longer hours and less pay. The reality of entrepreneurship coupled with the challenges of being a new parent (#teamnosleep), spun me in a spiral of anxiety, frustration, depression and eventual burnout.

When you burn out you literally have exhausted all of your ability to function. I could go no further.

Wake Up Call

One day I literally couldn’t get up off the sofa. I felt helpless, trapped and defeated. My heart palpitations were getting worse and I couldn’t breathe.

Sitting there I remembered when I was a little girl, how my mother blacked out and collapsed at work. She had an anxiety attack brought on by chronic stress. I remember her telling me how frightened she was when it happened and the thought of not being around for us kids scared her even more.

I cried. I screamed.

Then, I committed to prioritizing me again.

I learned about the power of self-love…

I started putting my wellness at the top of the list. Self-care taught me self-love. It’s not selfish to fill your cup first, it’s self-love. When you prioritize your mental, physical and spiritual health, you have the resilience to rise above the chaos and show up as your best self.

  • I started practicing Reiki - an ancient Japanese energy healing modality to balance the mind/body connection.

  • It gave me so much calm and peace that I kept studying and got certified as a Reiki Master.

  • To further my own healing I went to life coaching school and became a Certified Life Coach

  • I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to learn how to better nourish my body - I became a Certified Health Coach.

  • I travelled to Thailand, where I studied Thai Healing Massage

  • Yoga and Ayurveda were next on my journey and I became a Certified Registered Yoga Teacher - 200hr.

I learned the power of self-awareness…

I started using these healing tools to help family and friends. I knew that wellness and healing would be a big part of my future.

Meanwhile, I got back to growing my business.

Now although I was equipped with the tools to manage the stress and anxiety, I realised that I was still feeling bored, unfulfilled, and as though something was missing. The situations that caused the stress, anxiety and frustration were still there and my self-care was just putting a bandaid on it for a little while.

I began a journey of self-discovery to find out what I truly wanted and what would actually make me feel happier. As I became more self-aware, I started making better choices for myself. I recognized how I was self-protecting (some people call these self-sabotage and limiting beliefs) with habits and beviours that didn’t actually serve me. I learned how to strengthen my mental fitness to combat the self-protecting patterns and behaviours that kept me on the hamster wheel of being stressed, overwhelmed and unhappy.

TODAY

I’m a calmer, healthier, happier, and more fulfilled version of me. I build my mental fitness every day with science-backed mindset work, I nourish my body with healthy food and exercise and I feed my soul with a dedicated spiritual practice, and by living my purpose and sharing my message.

When I became the CEO of Richard Branson’s Centre of Entrepreneurship, I knew that I wanted to bring this kind of wellness to entrepreneurs because it would help them be better leaders, better decision-makers and build stronger, happier teams and make businesses a force for good. My own team has unofficially dubbed me the “Wellness CEO”. You can read all about that here.
